St Jean de Minervois is the nearest village by road to the mill, although there is an idyllic walk along the river gorges to a pretty hamlet set amongst vineyards and garrigue.
The Minervois countryside is full of olive, almond, fig and apricot trees and is amazingly unspoilt - in April and May, the nightingales arrive along with fresh cherries. At St Jean, 'the best muscat in the world' is made, and you are in the centre of the biggest wine area in France. Driving to the mill you are really in deep France; getting closer, you see the cliffs of the river gorge. The mill is the only house at the end of the track - in winter, a 4x4 will be necessary!
The setting is really a fairytale one, everything contributing to a unique atmosphere and sense of place. There are two independent suites which would be suitable for bed and breakfast; and there is scope for more work to your own taste in some places. The bedrooms are varied in size, from the master bedroom at 26m², to one at 9.5m². Under the larger terrace is a storage area with wc and utility area.
The access road is private for a few hundred yards from the house, but all the rest is maintained by the local Mairie.
